The hot springs of Efthalou

At a beach a few km south of Molyvos we went in search of the famous hot springs. I need a hot bath.
After a few wrong turns we found what looked like a deserted pebbly beach, with the coast of Turkey not far offshore. We ventured inside a small white building along the beach and found a number of bathers already inside. As I lowered myself gently into the steaming water I found that it was hotter than any bath I would normally get into. My wincing prompted one of the other bathers to indicate to me that the ocean end might be a little cooler. After 10 minutes of broiling on a smooth marble stone I decided to try the chilly waters of the Aegean outside. I was surprised to find that the hot springs had also warmed the waters of the ocean around the building too.

The water temperature of these hot springs is about 46 degrees and is high in radium. (glow in the dark?) It is supposed to be good for everything from hernias to hemorrhoids. The water is clear and trickles constantly from a small opening in the wall. It fills a small pool inside a claustrophobic room and it overflows at the other end of the pool into the ocean.
